The concept of family gets bigger when you’re an exchange student. It’s no longer the group of people you’re born into, but the people you meet when you’re already your own person, capable of thinking for yourself and make decisions in your life. And they accept you with all that, and the many other things that make you who you are. It’s amazing seeing how people can build incredible relationships between them in a short period of time. It makes me full of joy watching it happen, and the best moments of my experience here were the ones I spend with other people. When you’re surrounded by people you know nothing about, your sense of curiosity takes charge, and you leave your shame and fears behind, Why did I reject those kinds of interaction before? I don’t have the answer to that, but now that I know how happy they make me, I’ll welcome them every time we meet.
